We currently live in unprecedented times that are presenting unique challenges, one of these is with the significant numbers of ex offenders and service personnel leaving prison and the armed forces. Upon returning to civilian life they are facing health problems, homelessness and unemployment issues. Our Action2 Housing project aims to address homeless issues faced by ex-offenders and military personnel irrespective of age. A number of our team know how difficult it can be to secure accomodation upon release from prison and the trauma of transition back into civilian life.
We have established and cultivated a number of links with property companies in the North East and are able to offer suitable ex-offenders, military service personnel and other individuals a fast route to address homeless issues, whereby placing the individual into a more conducive environment than the usual hostel environment currently on offer. By providing this service it places the individual in a more stable environment away from the pressures currently found, away from the prolific drug and alcohol abuse found in present hostel accommodation.
The aim of the project is primarily to engage and provide a localised and individualised resettlement and reintegration process, tailored according to personal needs and requirements; allowing a smooth and seamless transition back into society. We aim to create a culture of support through a variety of networks and to work in partnership with key stakeholders in the public, private and voluntary sectors. Maximum effectiveness and efficiency will arise from a proactive, multi agency, multi tiered approach with sustained interventions over an extended period. The business model for the project would be end to end (one stop shop) as opposed to a traditional Hub and Spoke.
The concept would be that individuals would voluntarily attend an intensive and innovative Skills and Employment programme over a number of months, incorporating Drug and Alcohol Treatments, Psychosocial Interventions, Counselling, Advice on Debt, Benefits and Housing, participation in Volunteering Programmes, Community Projects, Work Placements, Work Trials and Employment Opportunities. Those considering self employment would also receive guidance and support. The programme would be run strictly on a mutual respect agenda with particular attention paid to the individual needs each of the client groups.
